Hey any chance of having the merchant in the temple district having stacked items to buy? Say I wanna make a bunch of scrolls and ink, if you stackem instead of buying say 40 eggs one at a time, how about buying them 10 at a time?
Be nice. Wink

i don't want to preempt any other replies, but will offer a few thoughts.

i've thought before about making such a request, it would definitely make practicing some crafts much easier.  and those crafts tend to be the ones with less monetary reward and/or producing single- or limited-use products (such as scribing, alchemy, food).  however i have not asked for the following reasons.

the addition of stacking has been great and has already vastly improved the lives of us crafters immensely, and as a means to simplify inventories i think its great.  thanks las again for this.

but i have a general sense that there is already some discomfort with power crafting (even though it is a natural enough reaction to the way things work).  while essentially simply making bulk recipes, i get the sense that folks don't want large scale manufacturing (which even in real life requires a good-sized market to support it).  crafting is rather seen more akin to the work of a potter or a vintner, whose quality products cannot be rush without sacrificing quality.

anyway, i'd refrained from asking for this reason as well as because i know our admin team has had other priorities.  i certainly sympathize with the desire, but i can see reasons we might not want to.

Good Post Mel.

I guess to what  you said, I'll say that the thing we're concerned about is not so much the powercrafting is that the abuse we've seen doled out to the Gryph Vendors.  I mean, at one time, there was the one GV in clarendon who had 30 iron daggers!! Huh  We don't really care that one person wants to make that many iron daggers, It's cool to climb the crafting level ladder.  Harmank was doing the same before I took over the DM job.

But the problem lies the powergaming this breeds.  Someone is dumping that many daggers solely for the coin.  Problem with that is, our mod as it stands has no real "money sink".  No housing, no one giving a rats ass enough to start a guild, etc.  Until we have a money sink set up, it's hard to have that "quasi-realistic" economy model.  When Harm used to mass produce certain scrolls, I did it because I know that there was one PC that always wanted to buy them.  We RP'd it out.  It was great fun for all of us.  I remember Gares used to mass produce some stuff, and he had a one man flea market one day, just sitting around, letting people see what he had to buy.

There are some things I think it would be a great advantage to have the merchants sell stacked....molds, glass, bottles, vials, flasks, etc.  But as you said, we're kinda trying to get this mod updated to keep peoples interest until NWN2, and the next exciting version of Nailaeon.

Lets just say stacks are a pain unless you start out with them.
You've basically got two places to set it, at the source in the BaseItems.2DA or in the toolset for each item. But even then you are not done. You need to script adding or removing an item from a stack. This is why stacks get used rather than just one item, the scripting is complicated and the functions available are not always relyable.
So along with all the other reasons, there is a technical one as well.

Cheers
