Naming Areas

Post by The Dark Mike » Sat Apr 03, 2010 7:05 am

I did some research and came across a cool link, it's actually from Middle Earth and Numenor - both works of J.R.R. Tolkien.

The Thain's Book

As for re-naming Crag's Claw, here are a few ideas:

The Ancient Forest
The Mystical Forest
The Old Forest
Dagwood Forest (it means Shining Forest)
Sylvan Forest
Dimholt (from Middle Earth - dim means dark and obscure/secret, holt is a poetic word for wood/grove)

A bit of animal husbandry knowledge to toss in...a holt is also an otter's home.

Some other names for some other areas we might have use of in the future.

The Sanguine Moor
Brackenhall (deep foresty area)
Heaven's Fall
The Grit Sea
Stone March
The Mountain's Gullet

I think I will go with Dae'holt, don't want to copy LotR exactly, Dae means shadow in elven.

Some more ideas for other places:
Scourge
Gauntlet of Pain
Despair
Hall of Lost Kings

Not having seen the landscape that you guys are naming I have a couple of ideas as well :) (they may very well not be useful...)

Forest of Souls
Ynys Taltraeth (innis-Tal-Trayth) meaning River Medow at the End of the Beach
Ynys Gadarn meaning strong or mighty island

:)

I'm more partial to a Egyptian theme - hall of lost Fa Kings
Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "Holy shit...what a ride!"
